Onion Grilled Cheese


  • 2 Tablespoons Canola Oil
  • 5 Tablespoons Unsalted Butter, Softened
  • 2 Large Onions, Sliced
  • 2 Teaspoons Sherry Vinegar
  • 1 Teaspoon Sugar
  • 12 Slices of Anny’s Country White Sliced Bread
  • 8 Ounces Sliced Gruyere


  • Heat up the cannola oil and 1 tablespoon of butter in a large pan over medium heat
  • Cut the onions into tin slices. Once the butter is melted, add the onions and cook until dark brown and caramelized
  • Add the venager, sugar, and 2 tbs of water
  • Continue cooking until liquid id evaporated, transfer onions to a separate bowl and reserve
  • Butter 1 side of each slice of bread
  • Lay 6 slices of bread, butter side down, on to the pan. Top each with as much cheese and onion mix as desired. Top with another slice of bread, butter side up
  • Once bread is golden-borown, flip and continue to cook until cheese is melted and both slices of bread are golden-brown
